Food Sounds Good

Food Sounds Good

Culture = Food + Music (~3:00)

Rarely do music and gastronomy share an equal stage. No matter much you are willing to fork over almost double-digit Benjamins for the Coachella watermelon, that overpriced fruit isn’t necessary to your festival experience.

Prioritizing the food as well as the music, the Long Beach-based Music Tastes Good returns on September 29th and 30th for its third year with a roster packed with established stars and rising talents in both fields. Running on the theme “Port Cities of the West Coast,” the Taste Tent will feature sampling menus from guest chefs as well as panels.

The culinary lineup is as eccentric as the musical acts, which includes James Blake, New Order, Joey Bada$$, Sun Kil Moon, and Santigold. Hometown bookings include chef Jason Witzl of the Southern Italian-inspired restaurant Ellie’s, who OC Weekly described as having “by far the most impressive resume of any chef in Long Beach.” Dishes like Grilled Bread—slices of sourdough served with pork butter—showcase Witzl’s careful execution of heartfelt indulgences.

And on the other side of delight is chef Dina Amadril, who gave up her two decade-long corporate career to open Long Beach Creamery. Classic flavors are represented at this local favorite alongside more adventurous offerings such as burnt caramel and vanilla whiskey.

Be sure to check out other chefs like the Berkeley-based sandwich maestro Sincere Justice and the 2015 Seattle Rising Star Chef Cameron Hanin at Music Tastes Good next month. The Taste Tent is open to all attendees.
